Erik Andersen

I am a former molecular biologist with an entrepreneurial mindset aiming to transition into a full time IT career and utilize my extensive skills at troubleshooting computer issues, ability to coordinate across departments to achieve desired results, teaching new employees, ability to teach myself new skills, and allow me to further learn new IT skills. I love to learn new skills through self-guided education, research, practice, and asking good questions from available resources. Through 10 years of work in molecular biology research laboratories, and 4 years of being self employed in project management, raising capital, real estate acquisitions, and real estate renovations I have gained a diverse set of skills that I now want to apply in a IT business environment. My primary strengths from the labs are detailed and thorough self education of new skills, training new laboratory employees, creating organizational systems, gathering information, and public speaking, specifically presenting research to general audiences. I have won awards for the quality of my presentations at national research conferences. My primary strengths from self employment are managing projects from beginning to end including marketing, client acquisition, contract creation, and contract fulfillment. This includes raising capital, prioritizing multiple concurrent processes, and coordinating multifaceted projects across internal departments and external companies to ensure that contracts were fulfilled according to business requirements. In this new chapter of my career I intend to transition into an IT career. I already have extensive experience with troubleshooting hardware and software issues within computers and new computer setup. For example I have performed extensive troubleshooting to make research programs work together and with Windows, Apple, and Linux based operating systems. This included using line commands to interact with supercomputers to process massive quantities of data. No matter how esoteric or under-documented a program is, there is always a process and a logic to how it operates. Now I am actively pursing certifications related to Help Desk Support and Systems Administration. IT problem solving, learning opportunities, and a general mission to create stability out of chaos is 100% in alignment with my goals. I also intend to acquire a working skillset of Javascript and SQL and any other language as needed for creating the desired solutions.
