Three things are essential to me in work: adding value, entrepreneurial attitude & a passionate team that works based on trust & involvement. Art always plays a role too as a unique messenger, crossing borders and building bridges. If implemented intelligently it is a powerful force to catalyze change. At my 1st job at Robert Bosch I had great colleagues but I missed the relevance of my work. When I could join World Press Photo to lead their exhibition department, I was thrilled. I still feel fortunate that the best photojournalism professionals learned me the language of visual storytelling. Being well informed is essential for a fair & green world. Quality research journalism is key. After 7,5 years I switched to impact investing, funding solutions for a green and fair planet at the charity lotteries, the 3rd largest private funder in the world, nowadays giving more than €500 million yearly to charity. We could fund only 1% of the applicants. Connecting the other 99% to relevant other initiatives & funders was probably what I did most in this job. It doesn’t matter how you say yes to organizations that get funding, it matters how you say no to the ones who don't, was what I learned in this job. Connecting is my second nature. Magic happens when great people & talents & ideas are matched. Although we have all the technical tools to connect, we still seem to be separated and divided. I think in connections and link people, organizations & ideas every day. That's why my company is called Femke LInc. I'm committed to the values of charities but the mission driven entrepreneurs stole my heart. Chairing the Green Challenge preliminary jury & guiding the judging process of the main jury was my favourite role at the lottery. For me social entrepreneurship is the sustainable business model for solving the world's main challenges. And we need stories to make change happen and artists are the best storytellers.
