Fernando de Buen Lopez

I am a human centered design and innovation professional with experience in healthcare, food service, consumer products, energy, and financial services. I am an advocate for design as a way to improve human lives and experiences. I believe humans should be central to the solutions I build and the work I do. I started my career as a mechanical and electrical engineer working with small wind turbines by day, and playing music by night. Eventually, these two seemingly disparate activities led me to pursue a dual master's degree in Design and Business Administration at IIT's Institute of Design, in Chicago, where I learned to apply different problem-solving approaches with the goal of improving human lives. Since graduating, I have been flexing my problem-solving muscles at Doblin, Deloitte's human-centered innovation practice. I have worked on, managed, and delivered a range of innovation projects, including conducting user research, building innovation capabilities, developing concepts, sizing business opportunities, and developing new business opportunities. I am still passionate about music and I continue writing and recording new music, and I am always looking for new ways to bring more innovation and design to music.
