About

If we are to address the issue of climate change at the pace and scale required, we need an effective and accelerated response from a diverse range of stakeholders, including business, government, academics, NGOs, investors, media and the community. I am committed to helping companies understand the risks that climate change poses and advising on ways to manage the necessary transition to a low carbon future. I can’t always guarantee that my advice will be followed, but I can guarantee it will always be frank, fearless and based on science. At BHP, I am accountable for all climate and sustainability-related public policy issues. I lead the design and implementation of BHP’s climate change strategy, including activities in the areas of mitigation, adaptation, portfolio evaluation, stakeholder engagement and low emissions technology. In 2015, I was responsible for delivering BHP’s Climate Change Portfolio Analysis report, an industry-leading analysis that describes the impact of both an orderly and a rapid transition to a low carbon future on the valuation of the company’s portfolio. In December 2015, I was appointed to the Financial Stability Board’s Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), reporting to the G20. The TCFD continues to play a critical role in encouraging identification, assessment, management and disclosure of the financial risks of climate change across sectors and geographies. I advise the BHP Board and senior management on emerging climate change and sustainability trends and represents the company in engagements with both national and international stakeholders, including NGOs, academics, industry associations, governments and investors. I also hold several Board positions, including as a Director of IETA, which aims to build international policy and market frameworks for reducing greenhouse gases at lowest cost, and Deputy Chair of the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute. I am a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
