Frank Shellabear

Frank Shellabear is a native of Perth, Western Australia. After serving as a commissioned officer in the Australian Army, he began his insurance career in 1972 – selling life insurance and then managing a field sales team. He joined the start-up Australian American Assurance Company (an AIG company) in 1974, where he rose to the position of National Sales Manager.Frank’s industry experience includes a key role in the development of Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) Travel Insurance, at the time, the dominant Australian travel insurance program. In 1983 he served as a consultant to Sentry Insurance, and spent a year in Stevens Point, Wisconsin serving as the Senior Sales and Marketing executive on the TravelGuard startup team. In 1986, Frank returned to the United States and launched Travelsure, Inc. As a General Agent for Access America, by the early 1990’s, Travelsure was the dominant travel insurance broker on the West Coast.In 1991, Frank, with Les Maine and Commercial Union Insurance Company, created Customized Services Administrators, Inc (known as CSA Travel Protection). Travelsure & CSA, were merged. Subsequently, Les Maine, Lee Hughes & Frank, acquired 100% ownership of CSA.Frank was a stockholder, officer and member of the executive team at the time of CSA’s 2008 acquisition, by Europ Assistance. He served as a corporate officer and the designated insurance licensee, until his retirement in July 2012.Active in ASTA, ATME and CLIA Frank was an educator and a sort after public speaker. Active in the creation of the US Travel Insurance Association (UStiA), Frank served on committees, the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He was the UStiA vice president and president elect when he retired.Post retirement, reacting to inquiries from various industry sources he created “FS Consulting Services”, with a view to providing consulting services in the areas of travel insurance, assistance services, ancillary revenue and loyalty programs.
