Gabriel Pecot

Gabriel Pecot is a journalist, filmmaker, and senior editor specializing in documentaries, multimedia, and cross-border investigative projects. He works as editorial director at JUT Media, a non-fiction multimedia production company, overseeing digital and television media journalistic projects, ensuring content cohesiveness, and upholding editorial quality. He began his career as a photographer at Diario Público in Spain in 2007. In 2011 he started working for Clarín newspaper (Argentina) in Europe and North Africa. At the end of 2012, he joined the Associated Press office in Madrid, publishing his images in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Le Monde, and Der Spiegel. In 2014 he took over the audiovisual production of the PorCausa Foundation, and in 2015, he became editor and producer of the Telesur channel in Spain. From 2015 to 2018, he makes short documentaries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America for El País (Spain). He undertakes commissions for media such as TIME, Channel 4, GEO, AJ+, El Pais Semanal, or Univision. He has also coordinated and produced multimedia projects for ODI (UK), Oxfam, and CEAR (Spain). In 2017 he directed and scripted the feature documentary 'A Game Called Hope' for the Barça Foundation. Between 2018 and 2021, he was Head of Documentaries at Clarín (Argentina). A quality journalism project was documenting the 'Ni Una Menos' movement in Argentina, the social outburst in Chile, and the daily life in the Falklands / Malvinas Islands. In 2021, he joined the European startup So.fa.dog, acting as Executive Producer and Coordinator of SoFaDoc, their micro docs channel, until 2022. The Luis Valtueña Humanitarian Photography Award recognized his project on refugees in Greece in 2012, the videojournalism award Desalambre, his work on the consequences of the financial crisis in Spain in 2014, and in 2017, the SiciliAmbiente Festival in Italy, his short film on human rights 'Welcome to Europe.' In 2021, he received the 1st ADEPA award in the Multimedia Coverage category for collaborative work on the impact of the pandemic in Argentina. In 2022, he was a finalist for the Gabo Award in the Coverage category for a collaborative, cross-border investigation of the non-lethal weapons industry in Latin America. Festivals in the UK, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, Brazil, and Mexico exhibited his documentaries.
