Thesis currently researching: Total Cost of Ownership of Sustainable Business Practices Integrated throughout the Supply Chain. The research has strategic implications for efficiency and adaptability, innovation, responsibility and longevity. Sustainable Business and Supply Chain Management are both big picture practices that look far into the future. They both consider long-run advantages over short-term profits and have qualitative advantages that are difficult to measure. A model that can help to justify Sustainable Business goals may make the difference in some companies pursuing such goals. This will also greatly aid any company working to integrate Sustainable Business practices across companies in the supply chain. Currently, general models do not exist. Companies struggle to quantify decisions involving intangible and qualitative benefits. Sustainable Business practices are high on the list of benefits that need a standardized measurement of profitability. As companies strive to maximize their Triple Bottom Line, they find difficulty in proper measurement of the gains they have made in both social and environmental efforts. Standardized measurement would also greatly aid in decision making when comparing different project proposals.
