My first position at The Travelers involved application programming using an IMS database. I job posted within The Travelers to become an IMS system programmer. My next job involved IMS consulting assignments while working for Data Base Management. At this position, I taught myself DB2 and SQL. With this new knowledge, I taught IMS and DB2 classes for DBMI as well as being assigned as a contractor at a large insurance company as a consultant for one of the first DB2 projects in the Hartford area. This is where I got hooked on DB2, understanding its internals and doing performance tuning. During this time I was also the Chairman of the New England DB2 Users Group and did many presentations both in New England and at the International DB2 User's Group (IDUG). My next job was at Online Software, who was quickly bought out by Computer Associates. I was responsible for the development of Online Software's original DB2 Tools called the ProSeries. After seven years working on these tools, I left CA and they then bought the Platinum DB2 tools. I am currently working at CSC working on the Wealth Management Accelerator/VANTAGE-ONE application. My responsibilities include mentoring other CSC staff in the areas of DB2, data modeling and performance tuning. I have had the opportunity to build my own performance testing environment for the wmA/V1 n-tier application. On multiple occasions, I have taken this performance tuning environment to the IBM mainframe performance tuning lab in Poughkeepsie, NY and to the P-series performance tuning lab in Waltham, MA. I have also helped many of CSC's clients performance tune their version of CSC's applications to help them meet their own service level agreements and save money.
