About
Currently the network guy at CFA, I head up the networks team. For the size of the network (450+ sites and a couple of data centers, my role forces me to have a well rounded skillsets across multiple technologies. I'm a senior resource, whose job is mainly choosing and implementing new technologies that add value inside our complex environment, documenting, and then upskilling other resources. When a new technology or project comes in that wants to leverage our private cloud infrastructure, I help design and implement it, no matter what the actual technology is. Over the last few years, we've been very busy implementing network and data centre designs. Borderless Networks, Data Centre, and Security skillsets: - Cisco wireless, routers, and switches - Cisco Prime - Cisco ASA and VPN, Palo Alto firewalls - RADIUS - cisco ISE, dot1x, Cisco ACS, PKI - Cisco UCS - design, document, support, and train other staff - Nexus switching - vmware ESXi and vCentre - ADC's: Citrix Netscaler and Radware Appdirector, GSLB, SSL offload, AAA, L7 Policies - DNS - Ironport WSA - Sophos Mail Gateways My position also sees me develop internal processes, standards, and strategies, and seeing that the get implemented. I'm responsible for managing network staff and external contractors for day to day operations, upgrades, and new technology projects. Work directly with business units for technology projects. For example, I designed, implemented, and operate 'internal' network connectivity to mobile satellite connected vehicles). At CFA, there is always a lot going on, so along with keeping the network services running, I often manage tasks and resources affecting CFA network projects. Empowering ICT and non-ICT staff is another big part of my role. I develop training plans and presentations, and present to technical and non-technical resources normally around how to deploy systems or a use a specific technology inside our environment.
