As a qualified Fitter and Turner, I have also gained my diploma in Mechanical Engineering post trade through night school. With some 20+ years experience in machining, both manual and cnc, I have an extensive knowledge in the manufacturing sector. Early schooling I attended a technical college and excelled in Engineering Workshop Practices (EWP) Going on to complete my apprenticeship as a fitter and turner in a precision gauge making company, I developed the ability to work to extremely tight tolerances through processes such as cylindrical grinding, surface grinding, honing and lapping. Having developed an exceptional understanding of different measuring techniques, from micrometers right through to comparators, thread mics to floating carriage mics. Progressing into CNC machining, I began programming basic 2 axis lathes before moving onto multiple axis twin spindle, twin turret machines comprising live tooling, bar feeders/grippers and even robot gantry loading. As my career evolved, I then transitioned into programming machining centers, from 3 axis through to 5 axis, also including 3+2 axis maching on very large twin column gantry style machines. With an extremely good knowledge of fanuc controls, I can proficiently program manually whilst also writing my own macros when required. With experience on Mazak machines, I know mazatrol. Also having operated Okuma machinery I know IGF. I have operated various other machines through the years, not only but including, hardinge, makino, Cincinnati, mori seiki, Haas, Anca and Ace. My CAM experience includes a very early version of 2D hypermill, PEPS, mastercam and most recently NX. Having extensive experience machining a wide variety of materials from plastics/urethanes to ferrous and non ferrous alloys, castings and hardened steels, I enjoy the challenge involved with tool selection/grade, work holding techniques and allowing for stress relief. I take immense pride in my work and have a very keen eye for detail. You could even say its borderline OCD but when working on large or expensive components I pride myself on making very few mistakes.
