About
My current interests, and work, are in the development of mobile applications. I think the power and ubiquity of mobile devices, coupled with the potential to generate contextual answers in an instantaneous fashion without the physical ties associated with traditional computing, is very exciting, and I would like to continue my efforts in this area. In addition to mobile application development, I am interested in anything Python and open source. I have made use of Python extensively over the past 6 years for everything from daily automation tasks to long-running server applications. I find it to be powerful, clean, and the most expedient way to get an idea from the drawing board to a working application. I am also a big proponent of open source software, taking advantage of it wherever I can and updating it to fit my specific needs if appropriate. Before Plantsense, I was a research assistant in the SecLab at UCSB under professor Giovanni Vigna. During my time at UCSB, I worked with fast-flux networks and the automated detection of malicious code. I also competed in capture the flag (CTF) at Defcon (we took first place at Defcon 13), helped to organize, run, and develop the scoring system for the UCSB international capture the flag competition (iCTF), and participated in two electronic voting machine reviews as part of the UCSB “red team” doing penetration testing on both the ES&S and Sequoia voting machines.
