About
A leader in progressive activism and organizing for the past eight years, Gregory McKelvey reflects the cutting edge of how political advocacy is changing in Oregon. Greg understands how the political emergence of new communities is changing conversations and redefining the landscape. He is adept at applying those insights to open up new possibilities and bring new voices to the table as advocates and elected leaders. He has vast experience in equity work and has consulted non-profits, elected officials, and candidates on strategy, public speaking, equity, and much more. Prior to joining Praxis, Greg was a co-founder of Portland’s Resistance, a protest turned policy advocacy group that was founded after the election of Donald Trump. He was formerly the chair of the Atlanta branch of Democratic Socialists of America. Most recently, he directed the 2020 campaign of progressive leader Sarah Iannarone for Portland Mayor and has been involved in several local campaigns in Benton County, Oregon. Greg grew up in Oregon, graduating from Southridge High School followed by Oregon State University and Lewis & Clark Law School. He is the Board President of Brown Hope, a nonprofit pursuing community solutions for racial justice, most recently with the Black Resilience Fund. Greg is also Vice-Chair of The Democratic Party of Oregon’s Black Caucus, served as a delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention, and is active within the party both locally and nationally. He is a husband and father of two.
