About

My experience travels a number of paths central to genetics, evolutionary biology, medicine, fish biology and aquaculture. I completed a PhD with Roy Danzmann (University of Guelph, Guelph, ON) on the heredity of acute thermal resistance (upper thermal tolerance) in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in 2002. In the same year I went to work for Louis Bernatchez (Université Laval, Ste-Foy, QC) on genetic mapping, heredity and reaction norms for mensurative traits, morphometrics and disease resistance in brook charr (Salvelinus fontinalis). After Laval, I did a two-year term postdoc with Dennis Hedgecock (USC, Los Angeles, CA). My most important achievement in the sense of the larger aspects of genetic theory is the discovery of genomic effects on random phenotypic noise, termed 'phenotypic dispersion'. In this, random phenotypic variation has an effect on I'm an evolutionary biologist who specializes in quantitative Genetics. My work focuses on understanding the complex processes which drive human-animal interactions. I use techniques such as behavioural analysis, comparative genomics, and population genetics to study these processes in a variety of contexts. The primary focus of my work has been how spatial populations connect with individual preferences. As part of this work, I have been able to use GIS tools to map patterns found within humans and animals
