INTRODUCTION I stand amazed at how seemingly unimportant events in life prove to be significant and crucial to develop the experience needed to fulfill a calling one has in life. One of the most valuable lessons I have learnt from a wise man is that “You are only as happy as your relationships are”. This knowledge largely impacted my career choices. I started off my career in the Social Sciences acquiring a degree in Social Work. I seized every opportunity to develop skills, expand knowledge and gain experience in understanding the inner-functioning of people and the different dynamics that surface in their relationships on both a personal- and professional level. INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE I worked in the UK for 5 years as a Social Worker in Children and Family Services. I gained experience in multidisciplinary team work, assessment of needs and managing packages of care; statutory intervention, family conferencing and in chairing core group meetings. LOCAL EXPERIENCE Upon my return to South Africa I worked both in private practice and in the public sector focusing on therapeutic interventions, dispute mediation, statutory interventions; as well as coaching and training of individuals and staff. In 2013 I was trained in commercial mediation and received accreditation through Conflict Dynamics, USB and the Africa Centre for Dispute Settlement. I received international accreditation from CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution in the United Kingdom). I loved working as a mediator and still act as an independent mediator upon request. CURRENTLY All of the above formed me personally and professionally and lead me to the point where (through divine intervention) I was connected with Khula Development Group. I now work as the Branch Manager in Paarl and get to draw on my faith, all my previous experience and skills to lead the wonderful team of people making a difference in their communities through love and education.
