Hassan Sowidan

Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering working in the Power and Energy Systems area with the additional appointment of Visiting Scholar at University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign. Research activities include transmission system planning and system reliability assessment, transfer capability and impacts of system upgrades, steady-state assessment and stability analysis for system operations, voltage stability and reactive power compensation, distribution system operations and expansion, dynamic simulation modeling of renewable resources and micro grids. Teaching activities include graduate and undergraduate courses in Power System Analysis, Power System Operations and Control, State Estimation, SCADA/EMS Applications, Power Circuits and Electromechaincs, and smart grids. Dr. Sowidan has provided team leadership and project management on consulting engagements, formulated proposals, delivered training services to team members, clients and prepared final reports. His experience encompasses lighting, low–current system design and implementation and back–up power system design. The areas of his expertise include power system planning and analysis, generation expansion, transmission deliverability, renewable resource integration into distribution grids and implementation of smart grid functionality into legacy grids. He has strong proficiency in the PSS/E, PowerWorld, AutoCAD, Dialux and Ecodial software packages.
