About

From 2008 to 2019, I was a key member of the team who transformed the Emily K Center from a small afterschool program serving just 30 low-income children into Durham’s top college access hub for about 250 enrolled students annually plus hundreds of local high school students through its open access college advisement program. During my time there, I worked tirelessly to transform the Center into a successful enrichment and acceleration program for academically-focused, underprivileged K-12 students. I led the implementation of programming and programmatic initiatives which adhere to Center policies, procedures, and philosophical parameters. I also designed and guided the implementation of new program components or improvements to existing services to ensure programming aligned with organizational goals, current best practices, and desired program outcomes for elementary and middle school-aged students. Spurred by my love for communications, I began working as an independent consultant in 2009, with a focus on social media marketing and writing. That experience translated into a new role in 2019 as the Marketing Program Manager for Participate Learning. Participate Learning is an education consulting firm located in Chapel Hill, NC that offers programs for language acquisition, language immersion, global learning, 21st-century competencies, and cultural exchange teachers. The vision of Participate Learning is to develop global citizenship among today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders with the goal of ensuring access to global education for all students. Today, I am an experienced and innovative leader with a proven track record of success in program design and development, human resource management, budgeting, community engagement, and partnerships. Thanks to my time as an educator and non-profit leader, I have a wealth of experience working in diverse communities, creating systems and processes for efficiency and equity. Through my time and experience at Participate Learning, I continue to deepen and broaden my communications expertise and leverage my problem-solving skills in cross-functional settings to support teacher recruitment, placement, and support, and also to create and share information about our innovative and inspiring methodologies and educators.
