Heather Ruland Staines is the Vice President of Publisher Development at SIPX. She first gained an interest in publishing when she volunteered as an intern at Yale University Press while earning her doctorate. She then joined Greenwood Publishing Group, and eventually became Editorial Director of Praeger Security International, a multi-format imprint that sparked her fascination with digital content and how technology might transform education. Heather later joined Springer Science + Business Media, where she was the first Global eProduct Manager for the SpringerLink platform. Subsequently she moved to the eOperations group, where she managed ebook partner development, journals acquisitions, Asia communications, and rights management. Heather currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Scholarly Publishers. She also chairs the ALCTS CRS Holdings Information Committee, comprised of the brightest and most dedicated technology librarians in academia today. She has worked with all major digital preservation initiatives globally, including CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe). Heather holds a BA and MA from the Ohio State University, as well as a PhD in Military and Diplomatic History from Yale University, where she was a Fulbright scholar, Olin Fellow, and Smith-Richardson Fellow.
