It was a normal work day, at Singapore Economic Development Board office on 1901 K Street, Washington DC I welcomed a visitor who had a scheduled meeting with the Director at 9 am. The meeting started. I continued with my workload of the day., totally oblivious of what was happening around me. Suddenly I get a call from Ari, from his home on Georgia, Ave , Silver Spring, MD, saying, “Mum just leave and go home “ briefly told me what had happened in New York. Seconds later I got a call from Dev, my son from Idaho , “Mum please go home” recounting the happenings. Minutes later I got a call from Sam, from Michigan. “Mum go home” ! All three sons had told me about the falling of the twin tours. Reiterating the scary situation. I looked out of the big window facing K street - saw hoards of people all on K streets rushing towards the Metro possibly to get home. I rushed to the conference room and told them about the disaster that had just happened. Not knowing at that there was more to come . I told Jonathan Lim, Director that I have to go home. He insisted he drive me home seeing the chaos on K Street. It was the kindest gesture. While in the car , Jonathan received a call from his wife who was in London, followed by a call from his Dad in Singapore. The world was watching……. My prayers for all the lives lost on that day and comfort for those left grieving.
