Henry Tsao

I am a staff specialist working for Queensland Health in the field of Emergency Medicine. I completed my specialist training with ACEM (Australasian College for Emergency Medicine) at the end of 2021. I love the variety and unpredictability of emergency, the excitement of trauma and resuscitation, the mixture of medicine and surgery, and the ability to immediately make a difference to people's lives. Plus it gives me the flexibility to spend time with my family, especially my children. It was not all medicine at the beginning. I started my career as a clinical physiotherapist and developed an interest in management of non-surgical spinal pathology. Following 5 years of working as a physiotherapist, I became interested in research and pursued a PhD in Physiotherapy that focused on the field of sensorimotor brain plasticity in patients with chronic pain. I had my mind set on a research career but despite obtaining a NHMRC post-doc fellowship, I declined it to pursue a career in medicine, partly because I missed the patient interaction and the ability to make a real difference immediately. My spare time is spent with my family, as an amateur gamer, and getting XP points in all facets of life.
