About

I was steeped in world culture from an early age. Growing up in Europe and Latin America have had a profound impact on my work as an artist, educator and parent. Surviving cancer, overcoming obesity, single parenting and then losing my beloved 13 year old son to brain cancer in 2008, have taught me many lessons in courage, empowerment, patience and integrity. My career as a director, performer, folklorist, visual artist, jazz musician, writer and arts educator has spanned more than 30 years. I am a graduate of the prestigious National Theatre Conservatory's MFA program, studied at the Art Institute of Boston, and have served on the boards in Minnesota of Expressive Arts Collaborative, Outward Spiral Theatre, as well as on the Parent Advisory Board of the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital, and in Massachusetts, was a board member of The North of Boston Arts Center, Gloucester Arts & Cultural Initiative, Friends of Dogtown, Education Foundation for Rockport, and am a founding partner of Gloucester's Cultural Districts. I have worked for many years as an arts & life skills educator, counselor and mentor, as well as a creative education consultant in both public and private schools. I also served for many years as a teacher and administrator in two Steiner Waldorf schools. In 2006, I founded The Brain Candy Project, a charitable organization that serves parents who are living in hospital with their critically ill children. Service to families struggling with terminal child illness and loss has, along with my artistic work, become a way to channel my grief into service. This vision and charitable mission have evolved in Fall, 2019, into the first-of-its-kind exclusive travel club for parents who have outlived their children: The Lost Travelers Club. In August 2009, I founded The Folklore Theatre Company in Gloucester, MA, as a place to hold stories that are otherwise dying in communities and to foster the art of place-specific storytelling. We are now a global organization without borders, having expanded this work with the United Nations Development Programme in Fiji, sponsored by the EU. In 2018, I joined the board of Parenting 2.0 as Director of Documentaries and Film Festivals, and also joined forces with Lemniscate Arts. In 2020 I have co-founded The Liminos Project, an international audio theatre company that explores the dance between the human physical and human spiritual toward achieving artistic, social and economic freedom. .
