About
Mr. Nichelson earned an Aerospace Engineering degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. While there, he was a member of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps and received a grant to perform research on a turbine blade performance for unmanned aerial vehicles. Upon graduation, he received a commission in the U.S. Navy and reported to nuclear power school, nuclear prototype, and assigned duty abroad a submarine. After a brief tour in the submarine community, he laterally transferred to the Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer specialty and later reported to Strike Fighter Squadron Two Seven (VFA-27) stationed in Japan where he served as their Assistant Maintenance Officer and Material Control Officer. In January of 2007, he separated from Naval Service and is currently employed at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport. During his time at NUWC he has had various positions of leadership and management including Test and Evaluation lead for novel SONAR and Anti-Submarine Systems, Lead Systems Engineer for a USV project, Principal for Safety for Unmanned Undersea Vehicles and currently the Principal for Safety and Engineering Manager for Distributed Undersea Sensor Systems.
