Hollie Sutherland

My background is in applied conservation, particularly of birds and mammals, with a strong focus on citizen science and science communication. I am now using my knowledge to help bring nature to very young children and their parents, as part of Wild Fife Babies and Bairns. I have worked in a range of sectors including academia, governmental organizations (nature conservation), consultancies (ecological and environmental), non-profit organizations (wildlife and fisheries trusts) and now self employed. I have a decade of experience coordinating volunteers and public engagement initiatives; am highly proficient in a wide range of ecological monitoring techniques; and possess excellent IT and data management skills. I use social media as an essential tool in all work I have done in recent years - both academically and professionally. My interest in social media started with my work as a Communications Specialist for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, since then I have trained academics in the use of social media to promote science to a wider audience, and in 2021 I created my own company Natura Sutherland, developing social media content for a small business.
