Honor Rushe

Honor has over 15 years’ experience working in the Fire Engineering industry in both Ireland and the UK. Over this time she has gained experience in fire safety engineering, fire risk assessments/surveys, fire safety system design, witnessing & commissioning, enforcement and pre fire planning. She has worked in a variety of market sectors including residential, commercial, educational, office, mixed-use developments, shopping malls, industrial and data centre type buildings. She has also been involved in several passive & active fire risk assessment surveys/inspections in relation to RRO legislation, Building Control Amendments Regulations and due diligence inspections, in an assortment of buildings including healthcare, residential, retail and commercial and office developments. She has experience in the design, witnessing, commissioning and signing off of fire safety systems and she is knowledgeable in construction detailing due to her architectural background. She has held varying fire safety positions over the years including fire engineer, risk assessor, fire safety systems designer, Fire Safety Officer for DCU and Fire Prevention Officer for Dublin Fire Brigade. She has also served as apprentice to Architects in the development of their architectural designs and gained valuable knowledge in relation to construction build-up, specifications and objectives. She has presented lectures on Fire Safety Certificates and Fire Engineering perspectives as part of the Higher Certificate in Quantity Surveying (M&E) Engineering course that DIT provides. Prior to this she was responsible for the management and day-to-day organization of projects and junior staff in the application of fire engineering, from competitive feasibility stage through to construction and practical completion stages. She has often been involved in presenting proposals and strategies to mechanical and electrical engineers, architects, contractors, local Fire Brigades and Approving Authorities/Building Controls through her work in the private industry.
