Insik Kim received his PhD in physics and photon science from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology's (GIST’s) in South Korea in 2015. During his postgraduate period, his professional interests were in the development of (microchip/Q-switched/femtosecond) lasers and time-resolved optical laser spectroscopy using non-linear frequency conversions. After then, he joined Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in the United States as a postdoc researcher and focused on the instrumentation for characterizing bio metallic-enzymes using synchrotron X-ray sources as well as X-ray free electron laser (XFEL) facilities. He has been working for BioCARS team of University of Chicago as a staff scientist at Advanced Photon Source (APS) synchrotron beamline 14 in Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) since 2020.
