Irene was selected as “One of 100 Incredible ECU Women in the last 100 Years” in 2007. The Pepsi Cola Company of Ayden selected Irene to paint portraits of CEO's Forest, Hoyt, and Jack and M.O. Minges. Irene was selected by East Carolina University to paint two 8ft. by 12ft. paintings for the Minges Coliseum which depict the history of the University. ECU has commissioned Irene to do over sixteen portraits to hang on campus. Some include, in The Brody School of Medicine, Dr. Wallace Wools, Dr. William E. Laupus, Dr. James S. Hallock and Dr. Cynda Johnson; in The William Laupus Health Science Library, Mrs. Evelyn Laupus; in The Joyner Langford Library, Verona Lee Joyner and Fred Timms Langford; in the Bate Building, Mr. Harold Bate; in the School of Criminal Justice Building, Frances Freeze Baynes; in the School of Nursing, Dean Phyllis Horn, Dean Emily Henning, and Dr. Dixie Klodjeski; in the Robert and Margaret Ward Sports Medicine Building, an 8ft. by 10ft. painting of Margaret and Robert Ward and a collage of their contributions. Irene was selected to paint the portraits of Mr. Charles H. Dorsett and Judge Russell Walker for the Montgomery County Superior Courtroom. She was also selected to paint Judge Stephen M. Williamson, Judge Kenneth Turner and Bertha Whaley for the Duplin County Court House. For the Onslow County Court House, Irene was selected to paint Judge William M. Cameron Jr. and Mr. Robert Lock. In addition, she was selected to paint portraits of Mosley Boyette and H.F. Seawell, Jr. for the Superior Courtroom in the Moore County Court House and Sheriff Joseph E. Reynolds for the Tyrell County Court House. Irene started her formal training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and received her Master's Degree in Fine Arts at East Carolina University.
