Jacob Palmer

I am currently a student at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, OK. My major is Chemical Engineering, and I play on the Varsity Baseball team in the catcher’s position. I was chosen to be a Resident Assistant in my dormitory. As an on campus job, I am the department’s Chemistry tutor and also prep the lab for the upcoming classes. I also tutor several students in their math and science classes. During my high school years at Buna High School, I received many accolades. Awards included multiple “B”una Awards in Geometry, Chemistry, and Physics classes as well as in band. I competed and placed in several UIL events including Number Sense, Calculator Applications, General Science, and advanced to the Regional Competition in General Math. My senior year I was chosen by the Science faculty to receive the Outstanding Student Award for the entire department. I was also a two year member of the National Honor Society. I was active in Junior Varsity basketball, Varsity Track, Varsity Baseball, and Band throughout high school. During the summer after my sophomore year, I was chosen to participate in a program co-sponsored by Rice University and Lamar University. During that 2 week period, the program goal was to educate students about renewable energy resources and relate them to upper level physics and chemistry. We worked in teams to create a solution to a given energy issue. We were required to present our findings to a panel of professionals in that field. We presented a power point, physical rendering, and a brochure outlining the main points of our solution.
