James Hanson

M.Math(Oxon), MSc (Oxon), M.Phil (Brunel), MA, QTS, C.Math FIMA James is both a parish Priest serving in rural villages in Surrey / Sussex, and a very experienced educationalist. His calling to Ordained ministry saw him train in Christian leadership at St Mellitus college, and currently sees him serve two wonderful village churches and communities, where he gets stuck in to every job going. Whether having sponges thrown at him at the village fete, out on pastoral visits, to being wrapped up in wrapping paper at the local youth group, he is very keen to work alongside people of any age, and all walks of life. On a Friday night, you may see him in town leading a Street Angel team, supporting those in society most in need during the late hours. Alongside serving his parish, he supports strategic leadership in church schools right across Surrey as an elected member of the Guildford Diocesan Board for Schools, Local leader of Governance for Surrey, and as a Trustee Director for the Good Shepherd Trust MAT. What unites his twin life pillars of faith and education is his love for learning, both to keep on growing in faith and being formed himself as well as fostering a love of learning and growth of faith in others. Friends and those in our community would readily point out his huge pastoral heart, adaptability, speed of learning, teaching gifts and being glue in any team when they describe him. As an educational expert, James is an experienced Headteacher, both as a founding Head, and also as Head of a standalone independent school. Alongside his expertise in school governance, he is published in numerous journals, and has spoken internationally on diverse subjects in education. James is also a senior education consultant for Hyde Global Education and also Global Schools Consulting Group, where he offers expertise in Consultancy covering Boarding, Wellbeing, Culture and Ethos evaluation, Safeguarding and International recruitment. He is keen to give back to the community just some of the riches it has given him, so enjoys volunteering, serving on boards and at global sporting events. His educational philosophy is centred on helping children develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and habits ready for their future world of work - but ultimately that education should help them achieve their dreams, fulfil their potential and explore faith.
