Jeffrey Guina, MD

Jeffrey Guina (guh-nay) is a licensed physician who is board-certified in psychiatry, addiction medicine, forensic psychiatry and community psychiatry. As Chief Medical Officer at Easterseals Michigan, he facilitates the activities of medical staff at a non-profit organization with locations across Michigan that provide a variety of services including psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy, case management, suicide prevention, assertive community treatment for serious mental illness, substance addiction treatment, community mental health and jail mental health care, and rehabilitation for physical and mental disabilities. Dr. Guina is also the Psychiatry Residency Program Director for Beaumont Health, currently building an educational program that will open in 2021. As a certified consulting forensic examiner and prior active duty military psychiatrist, Dr. Guina has performed hundreds of forensic evaluations, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, military sanity boards, PTSD claims, fitness for duty, disability, suicide and violence risk assessments, and occupational assessments of security clearance, combat veterans, pilots, healthcare providers, law enforcement, intelligence analysts, and personnel who work with nuclear or biological material. He received his B.S. In biochemistry and B.A. In history from the University of Detroit Mercy, and M.D. From Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his psychiatry residency at Wright State University/Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of Michigan/Michigan Center for Forensic Psychiatry, and public & community psychiatry fellowship at Wayne State University. He enjoys teaching students and residents, is a clinical associate professor at Michigan State University and Wright State University, and adjunct associate professor at Oakland University. His academic and research interests include traumatic stress, developmental disabilities, addiction, psychotherapy and forensic psychiatry.
