Jeffrey Schwartz

Jeff is a partner in Much Shelist's Creditors' Rights, Insolvency & Bankruptcy group where he focuses on the representation of buyers and sellers of financially distressed assets and the representation of secured and unsecured creditors in business reorganizations under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code and in out-of-court restructurings. He regularly advises lenders, debtors and other parties involved in bankruptcy-related matters. Jeff has represented clients in numerous Chapter 11 cases, restructurings and asset purchases involving a wide range of industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, retail, mining, insurance, aviation and travel, utilities, gaming, food packaging and environmental services. Throughout his career, Jeff has been recognized locally and nationally for his legal acumen and commitment to client service. In 2004, he was named by Turnarounds & Workouts magazine as one of 12 outstanding young bankruptcy lawyers in the country. Jeff has been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the area of commercial bankruptcy and workout law (2009-2012) and has been designated an Illinois Super Lawyer since 2005. He has also been listed in Best Lawyers in America. Jeff is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Chicago Bar Association, where he served as president of the Bankruptcy and Reorganization Committee. Jeff has written on a variety of bankruptcy-related topics, including asset purchases and sales, professional ethics and post-confirmation issues. His authored "Managing Environmental Claims in Bankruptcy" for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Education.
