Jessica Humildad

During my two years at California State University, Monterey Bay I have gained skills and knowledge to pull me and lift my inspiration to help others. I am on my last semester of senior year; expected graduation date is 19 May 2018. With my bachelor’s degree in Social Work, I am ready to enter the workforce. I am a fast learner, have an open mind to changes and an open mind towards others. Through my years and experience in the health field has encouraged me to serve others who are in need. As a nurse assistant, lots of patients were not aware of resources, help and quality of life they were entitled to. I would like to be one to have the capability to help and serve my community. At the Veteran’s Transition Center, we stand to help homeless Veterans reintegrate into civilian society and provide temporary housing while guiding them to find a home of their own outside the agency to the Veteran and their families. My year and a half working with Veterans and their families has shown me that change is good. At my internship, I meet one to two clients a week, update their files after weekly meetings, and inform them of services that are available to them such as meals on wheels, Trader Joe’s trucks, and housing opportunities. Computer software, such as excel, word, Outlook, etc., is used to input data collected through our own Veterans to further our goals and seek improvement. During the course of my career I have developed patience with people of all ages. I have the ability to listen and reiterate what the client has said using body language and proper tone & volume. My communication skills are great, I am able to talk to people and seek answers to their needs. When a client tells me their story I am able to empathize and show compassion. Because not all cases are the same, as a social worker I will find attention on details. Some aspects of specific programs will not work for all clients.
