Joe Varney

I have nearly 20 years of experience working in several capacities with the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center (CCCC). My employment began when I was hired as an irregular part time employee, while a full-time student at the University of Charleston. During this tenure I worked as an Event Manager, sold tickets in the ticket office, worked with the Union Stagehands, served with Catering and worked with Operations to name a few. After I completed my internship in New York City, I returned to Charleston, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation I worked professionally as an Interior Designer and Sales Manager in the area for four years. During this time, I continued working at the CCCC on evening and weekends as much as possible. In November 2005, the Event Coordinator’s position became available and then I was hired. In October of 2018 I was promoted to the Senior Event Coordinator, supervising two Event Coordinators. Some of my responsibilities are: booking and scheduling events, customer relations, drawing CAD's for events and concerts, scheduling labor for events and concerts, preparing invoices for events, communicating event needs with several departments, news and media interviews, tours of facility, VenueOps booking software and Microsoft Software.
