John Amatruda

John Amatruda, MD, is board certified in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism and has a proven track record in pharmaceutical discovery research and development, including advancing several novel candidate compounds, investigational new drugs, translational studies, and development programs. Dr. Amatruda has led drug discovery at Bayer and drug discovery and development at Merck for a number of programs, including metabolism, diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, which resulted in five new drug applications. He also has an extensive academic career and has served as principal investigator for NIH-funded basic and clinical research. He holds several patents, has authored more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has served as a reviewer for several journals as well as for grant applications to the NIH, JDRF. Dr. Amatruda received his B.A. from Yale University, his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr Amatruda is currently a Professor Adjunct, Department of Medicine, Section of Endocrinology, Yale University.
