John Austin, J.D.

I am a Senior Manager in EY's Indirect Tax practice in Nashville, Tennessee. My practice primarily focuses on Location Investment and federal/state credits. Prior to joining EY, I played an integral role in Kentucky economic development, serving as Senior Policy Advisor to the Campbell County, Kentucky Fiscal Court and as President of the Campbell County Economic Progress Authority (“CCEPA”). During my time with the CCEPA, I took the lead for Campbell County on a number of opportunities, including: local benefits related to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (“ARRA”), local property tax abatements, local job creation tax credits, tax increment financing, and federal and state grant programs. During my time at EY, I've played an active role in numerous Location Investment and tax credit engagements, including work in over 25 states. This work has included assisting companies in financial analysis related to location investment decisions and helping clients secure a number of federal, state, and local incentives, including: federal, state, and local job creation and retention tax credits, state and local investment tax credits, training grants and credits, state and local discretionary grants, real and personal property tax abatements, sales/use tax abatements, and alternative apportionment methodologies. My clients range from Fortune 100 multinationals to privately-owned companies with less than $30 million in revenue. I am a graduate of the University of New Mexico’s Robert O. Anderson School of Management. Additionally, I received my J.D. From the University of Dayton School of Law, and am now admitted to the Kentucky and Ohio Bars.
