Johnny Loji

As a fire fighter professional, I have fifteen years of service in the fire department environment and eleven years in a senior managerial position. I am currently working for Transnet National Ports Authority- Port of Cape Town as chief fire officer. I manage seventeen (17) fire fighters and are responsible for policy formulation, training, maintenance of firefighting equipment for the entire Port (more than 200 buildings), issuing of fire watch licenses, budget planning, emergency response to fire incidents within the Port, fire risk assessments and other related tasks that are required on a daily basis. I have been the chief fire officer for the City of uMhlathuze in Richards Bay. I was responsible for a wide range of issues ranging from; disaster management, special projects (plan scrutiny), training, joint exercises, responding to serious incidents, community awareness on disaster and fire aspects etc. Furthermore, I have been working as a field officer for the City of Cape Town. I was responsible for a wide range of activities such as compliance, business license applications, LPG site inspections (industrial and domestic applications), involvement in hosting of events, post fire investigations, etc. In conclusion, as Chief Fire Officer it is important to play a formidable role in shaping planning and their executions as per IDP performance indices based on the various local government infrastructures such as committees, forums, meetings, public relations, etc. It is my ambition to continue to impart and apply my professional skills and knowledge to the benefit of any professional organization or community.
