Jonathon Little

Professor Little teaches numerous Geography and GIS courses at State University of New York - Monroe Community College where he leads the GIS program. He is currently on the Fulbright Specialist roster and is a Cornell Community College Fellow with the Institute for African Development. Principal Investigator of a National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education (2020-2023) grant "Meeting Workforce Needs with Virtual GIST (Geospatial Information Science Technology)" aimed to develop an A.A.S. Geospatial degree program and micro-credential for professionals that is fully accessible both on campus and online. Innovative aspects of the project include online internships, online mentoring, and hands-on technical support at the college library and numerous public libraries. Principal Investigator of a State University of New York Innovative Instructional Technology Grant (2019-2020) grant to develop a virtual GIS desktop and remote workforce opportunities in New York state, Colombia, and Costa Rica. He is a collaborator on a NSF International Research Experience for Students (2019-2022) grant in Rwanda, led by the Rochester Institute of Technology. Principal Investigator of a National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education (2015-2019) grant to develop a geospatial career pipeline between high schools and the geospatial industry. Principal Investigator (2018-2019) of a 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund grant to develop a hybrid study abroad program with Fundación Universitaria Tecnológico Comfenalco using GIS Technology and Spanish Consultants. Travelled to Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan and taught remote sensing to faculty at Kazakh State AgroTechnical University summer of 2019 as a Fulbright Specialist. Selected as a SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador (2020). Awarded the GeoTech Center Lifetime Achievement award (2017), and in 2018 he was awarded the New York State's Individual Contribution to the GIS Profession award.
