Joseph Otoshi

Hello! My name is Joseph Otoshi, and I am currently a junior studying engineering at Biola University. My goal is to focus on the mechanical side of engineering in the future, and then hopefully work in that subject area. I am also interested in the area of biomedical engineering as studying the human body and how it works together has always fascinated me. One of my main goals in going into the field of engineering is to work on projects so as to brainstorm and make designs that reduce cost, increase efficiency, and is user-friendly. Ultimately, my biggest hope as an aspiring mechanical engineer is to help people and make a difference in the world for the better with the skills, knowledge, and abilities I have been gifted.Describing myself: My personality type is INTJ and my enneagram type is a 3 (with a 6 and 9 mixed in). I tend to be quiet and a little more on the reserved side, but I can also be very outgoing at times. While there are occasions where I like to be by myself, I also tend to enjoy working with people and especially helping them. Other words I would use to describe myself is friendly, ambitious, detailed, organized, and teachable.Other things about me: I have several interests and hobbies, including running, swimming, playing the violin and piano, baking, reading, and studying meteorology. Extracurricular-wise, I am involved in the orchestra at Biola (Biola Symphony Orchestra), and currently play violin there. While I was hoping to get involved with various clubs and other extracurriculars, like intramurals, this year, Covid-19 has caused me to become more focused on my academics. In the meantime, I tutor several Biola students via Zoom as my part-time job. Beyond my enjoyment of tutoring as a job, my hope is to do research and find an internship that is (hopefully) engineering-related sometime in the near future. In addition, I hope to transfer to USC Fall 2021 and graduate in 2023.
