Joy Bacon

My career goals are focused on finding work for a print or online journalism publication with a commitment to journalistic excellence. I am currently the editor-in-chief of The Whitworthian, Whitworth University's student newspaper. We publish a weekly print edition and daily online edition at whitworthian.com. My responsibilities include managing a 14-person editorial staff, as well as all financial planning. In the past, I have been the copy chief and scene editor for The Whitworthian. I have several other journalism experiences as well, including a summer internship with the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, as well as freelance work for Rinksider Magazine, the Tri-City Herald, and the Tri-City Area Journal of Business. This January interned with Inland NW Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, a publication of the Spokane Business Journal. After graduation this May, I will be heading to Baltimore, Maryland as an English teacher at the secondary level with Teach for America. Specialties: I have a strong background in AP style and Adobe InDesign, as well as specific coursework in editing, layout and design, grammar, reporting, and several upper-division creative writing classes. I am also familiar with College Publisher, an online host for college newspapers. I also have a minor in Spanish, and am conversationally proficient in the language. I have conducted and transcribed interviews from Spanish to English, as well as studied and lived for a month in Guanajuato, Mexico.
