Julie Landweber

Julia Landweber (Associate Professor of History at Montclair State University in New Jersey) received her Ph.D. From Rutgers University and her B.A. From Reed College. A specialist in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century France, she has published on the cultural and political relationship between France and the Ottoman Empire, on "turquerie" in early modern French culture, and on the early history of coffee in France. Her interests include cultural history, the history of food, women's and gender history, and the history of the first French empire (circa 1665-1800). She is currently writing a book on the history of coffee in France, and with Elizabeth Heath is the co-P.I. Of a digital humanities database and website in progress titled "Visualizing the Data of the Eighteenth-Century French Caribbean."
