Julie Slade

My main areas of expertise lie in Research and Development, animal model studies for Toxicology, both Acute and Alternative, and Repeat Dose and Reproduction. I am proficient in various drug administration techniques, including oral gavage (rats/mice); s/c and i/p (guinea pigs and mice); i/d (guinea pigs and rabbits); blood sampling and dermal; AbTox and systemic dosing involving guinea pigs and mice. I have a wide knowledge of macroscopic necropsy experience and techniques in rats, mice and rabbits, including whole body perfusions and tissue sampling. I also have experience of large animal necropsies, including sheep brain dissection for Scrapie surveillance and detection. I have been involved in in vivo studies relating to Diabetes and Obesity research and Self-Administration studies for Drug Abuse. I have experience in ACDP CL2 and CL3 isolators and cabinets. I have experience in McFadyeans and Gram staining; viable counts and culture purity; media sterility and fertility and serial dilutions. I currently hold a HO licence, Modules 1-4. I have worked to GLP standards and am currently working to GMP. I also have experience in animal nutrition, specifically dogs and cats, having passed various pet nutrition courses with Hills and Eukanuba during my employment as Assistant Manager at a pet store in Leicestershire. Whilst there I gained 2 Distinctions in Pet Store Management at Brooksby, Melton College, Leicestershire. I have completed my Secondment at UCD, Ireland, becoming a Marie Curie Fellow. I was studying and training in Zebrafish models for OKR and VMR and retinal morphology.
