Kaitlyn Keeney

I received my Minnesota teaching license in 2018, and I moved to California to begin my first teaching job. I have now been at Riverside Preparatory Elementary school (located in Oro Grande, CA) for the last two years. Throughout my two years of teaching I have gained so much experience and I have learned the importance of bringing compassion, empathy, and culture into the classroom. Building relationships with my students sets the foundation of my classroom environment, and it allows me to support my students both academically and emotionally. My teaching focuses on student-centered instruction, and culturally responsive teaching. Throughout my growth in becoming a culturally responsive teacher, I have gained a conceptual understanding of culturally inclusive instruction, and the importance of using cultural learning styles and individual background knowledge/experiences to adjust my instructional planning and implementation. Throughout my experience as a 4th grade teacher I have gained the skills and ability to scaffold and differentiate instruction using researched-based strategies to meet the needs of each individual student.
