Kamala Thriemer is a clinical researcher committed to public health and tropical medicine. She has more than 10 years field experience in Africa and Asia, coordinating clinical trials to inform treatment of the management of infectious diseases. She started her research career at the International Center for Diarrheal Diseases (icddr,b) in Bangladesh focusing on clinical and epidemiological studies to define the burden of falciparum malaria. She subsequently worked with the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) based in Tanzania and Kenya and then at the Institute for Tropical Medicine (ITM), Belgium where her research interests included malaria, typhoid fever and cholera. Her current research at Menzies focuses on optimising the treatment of P. Vivax and developing public health strategies for malaria elimination. She is also a lecturer at Charles Darwin University and coordinated the Vivax Working Group (VxWG) of the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN). She holds a medical degree, a master’s degree in Public Health and a PhD.
