Kari Rogers

I am so intrigued by the seemingly infinite, intricately woven, interconnected, cascading effects that trickle through many scales and impact many systems on earth and abroad. With that, I strive to be in a position in which we utilize scientific data, learn local community barriers and needs (by communicating and working with the community), and implement outreach programs to help others have access to the opportunity of living more sustainably. While earning a BS in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability at Colorado State University (CSU) there were many opportunities to continue growing and developing my skills and strengths. Through participating in the National Residence Hall Honorary Association and The Composting Expansion Project, I was able to gain leadership qualities, collaboration skills, and networking skills as we worked towards building a community and implementing composting within CSU’s food and coffee shops respectively. With the Presidents Leadership Program, my interpersonal-communication skills also were improved. In addition, I was able to work with the Alliance Partnership Program, taking on multiple perspectives by engaging with individual participants while building relationships and stepping back to observe and analyze through embodying a systems approach. Working with the Alliance Partnership advanced my skills and competencies in understanding the cultural responsiveness needed in working with underrepresented populations. I study and exercise public/interpersonal communication in hopes to bridge the gaps between scientists, societies, and policy/decision makers. I have passions that provide me a unique contribution to offer; two being creative/scientific writing and photography. Lastly, I have the ability to offer multi potential skills due to being a renaissance person. This is a catalyst to innovation, stemming from the ability to combine multiple fields while offering adaptability as a result of engaging in various interests.
