I have worked in pretty much every part of the IT business except mainframes over parts of 4 decades. I have punched cards, programmed in half a dozen languages for money, been a guru on Novel, Unix, a bunch of Microsoft Products, several brands of routers (before Cisco squashed everyone else), and a large number of security products. I did Unix in the 70s, Ethernet and IP in the 80s, and ran 100-site networks in the 90s. Today I specialize in small/medium business IT, which is the last bastion of the generalist. Corporate IT is too rigidly pigeonholed to suit my wandering interests. Specialties: Cisco routers and firewalls HP servers MS operating systems and servers. Various security products including antivirus/antispam and VPN.
