Karl Petersen

Through my experiences at Georgia Tech, Duke, and ExxonMobil, I have found that my passion lies in solving complex challenges to meet a shared objective across a multi-disciplined team of people. I am fortunate enough to do this in my current role at ExxonMobil as the lead controls engineer on the two largest executing upstream projects in the companies portfolio. I manage both the project management side, as well as, the engineering details of the equipment within my scope. No day is the same as each day presents unique challenges to be resolved to meet project execution schedules and ensure that equipment is delivered as intended.I started my career at ExxonMobil in the Subsea function supporting various design development initiatives and technology qualification efforts, and eventually serving as the lead of the new hire organization. Over my career, I have worked on different stages of Upstream Oil and Gas Projects from Concept select, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), contract award, through execution. My roles have allowed gain an expertise in project management, contractor management, and control system engineering.I lead with a "One Team" approach across all aspects my work, understanding that we win together and that the best solutions are devised from open collaboration and challenging the status quo. Outside of work, I am passionate about serving our community and developing our youth and proudly serve as a Big Brother as part of the Big Brother Big Sisters (BBBS) organization. My hobbies include traveling, outdoor activities including hiking and camping, playing Tennis and Golf, and reading good books.
