Kate McKenna, M.Ed, M.S.Ed, MS, BCBA, LBA, has worked in Early Childhood Special Education for over 25 years, providing special education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children and families through Early Intervention and the Committee for Preschool Special Education. Ms. McKenna is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Special Education department at Hunter College, and a Field Supervisor for Hunter graduate students completing their Student Teaching/Practicum experience. Kate has presented Inservice Professional Development workshops on current topics in early childhood special education. (Workshop details are described more fully in the Projects Section on this LinkedIn page.) Kate is on the Board of Directors of the Association for Science in Autism Treatment where she is Co-Coordinator of the Externship Program and a member of the Scientific Review Committee. To promote children's social and language skills, Kate has led playgroups with a thematically based curriculum designed to support children in expanding purposeful play, initiating and sustaining peer interactions, improving social communication skills, and developing friendships. Ms. McKenna holds a Masters in Child Study from the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study at Tufts University, a Masters in Special Education from Pace University, and a Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis from Hunter College. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Children's Literature at Easter Michigan University. In addition to State certifications in general and special education from Birth to Grade 2 and Grades 1-6, Kate holds a New York State Annotated Certification in Severe/Multiple Disabilities. Ms. McKenna is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a Licensed Behavior Analyst in New York State and Connecticut.
