About
A Board Director (permanent and interim) for over 25 years (for Balfour Beatty, AVIVA Canada, the Atomic Weapons Establishment plc and Eastern Electricity, among others), more focussed on business commercial performance than the traditional “support” role of the HR Director, I have now established myself successfully as a Consultant and Interim Manager focussed on: • Business Turnaround and Growth; • Transformation (including Digital); • M&A and Organisational Design, and • Culture Change and Leadership Capacity Development. A designer and deliverer of strategies and implementation plans that work, my experience with large and international companies is now being successfully transferred to the SME sector across a very broad range of industries. Selected Achievements: • Successfully introducing customer focus into a division of a very inward-looking company (Balfour Beatty), merging six divisions into three, and changing talent management from nepotism to competence. • Implementing a new leadership model to support AWE in transforming its business infrastructure and to address capability and succession shortfalls. • Leading and implementing a new global operating model for sales and logistics into a technology company. • Turning around Eastern Electricity Contracting from a £6m p/a loss to a £1m p/a profit by releasing 10% of the staff, introducing a customer facing culture that survived and negotiating new ways of working with three unions. • Delivering several digitisation programmes successfully with proper governance on time and to budget including for AWE and Balfour Beatty. • Supporting the creation of AVIVA by managing the post-acquisition integrations of its Group functions and direct insurance business.
