Kayshawna Brown

Hello, I'm attending Buffalo State College as a Sophomore and my major is Sociology. I live in Spanish Harlem on the East Side of Manhattan. I am an African American living with a single mother that takes care of me. During the Summer of 2018, I went abroad to Japan in a program called Student Diplomacy Corps. There I was able to meet students from around the world who helped me with my journey. In Japan, my group and I studied how to play a traditional drum called Takio. We performed with our Takio to elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and elderly people. But that's not all, I was able to communicate with Japanese people by living with a Japanese family for a week in a half. Also, I have been on a pilgrimage to Alabama to learn about slavery, lynching's and to see how African American slaves survive. I watched a dozen documentaries on how African American were watered down just for standing up for their freedom. With both of these accomplishments I would love to start a career with Japanese culture and African American history. I hope to start my future at a college that can help me accomplish my goals in getting my degree and learning more about myself than I did during high school. While I am in a company I will put my experience from college to help my teammates. I hope to work at a company that will expand my knowledge with each task and challenge me to to think outside of the box when working.
