About
My passion is teaching...teaching students, of all ages, to be knowledgeable concerning the content being covered, excited about applying their understanding in the real world, and motivated to do their best and share their knowledge with others. Regardless of what current educational position that I am in, my goals are always these things. I love mathematics and English, in general, which is rare. Both numbers and words inspire and excite me. In all positions that I have held up to this point, I have found that one thing remains as my strongest belief concerning educating others--students learn best when the information presented to them is presented through relevance and integration. In other words, students need to know why what they are learning is relevant to them NOW and how all of the subject areas interconnect and integrate to create a complete, balanced learning experience (Ex.: mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music, art, etc. All work together, and information transfers from one area to the other--they are not bound by four walls and only learned in isolation). So, what do I believe? That education, at all levels, should be: 1) exciting, 2) engaging, 3) relevant, 4) integrated, and 5) FUN! I am also passionate about being a voice for the underdogs...the teachers. Teachers hold a position that is invaluable, essential for other careers to exist, and usually under appreciated. I want to be able to make a positive impact in education on behalf of teachers, whatever that may look like. I want to petition for them, encourage them, support them, and be a part of changes that benefit them.
