My first year as a nurse I volunteered as an RN working with certified nurse midwives in a birth center providing gynecological care, prenatal, antenatal, and post partum care. That birth center served to provide education and compassionate care to the women of the Rio Grande Valley regardless of their ability to pay. It also empowered women who were seeking to have a natural birth, and provides additional breast feeding support. After my AmeriCorps service year was complete, I started working at Rio Grande Regional to learn to care for kids in the PICU. I am a AACN member and strive to continue to learn as much as I can to provide evidence based care.
