First and foremost, I love drafting. Ever since elementary school, when I was assigned to create a floor plan for my dream house on graph paper, I fell in love with the idea of creating technical drawings to explain an idea. I believe that it is the absolute clarity that is possible with technical drawing that is the key to fast, reliable work in design and construction. While I have not been employed to solely do drafting work, I have been incorporating hand-drafting into my current job as a custom bowstring manufacturer. Each custom string leaves my shop with a detailed drawing of every dimension. I have learned that, when my creations are handled by mechanics, craftsmen, and customers, all in a matter of hours, information and clarity is key. Even when outside of the office, I draft as a hobby. When I picture a new house, I jump into Revit and dream. When I can’t sleep at night, I pull up a blank document and start drawing. When I can’t get that garden bench, or new knife design out of my head, I hop onto Solidworks and have some fun. Even if many of these drawings never become something tangible, it is very enjoyable to see a detailed and realistic idea of what could be. This, to me, is perfection: a never-ending thirst to create a tangible body for our ideas, and be able to share them with the world.
